Tata Motors Introduces Lifetime Battery Warranty on Select EVs

Tata Motors has officially confirmed a 15-year "lifetime" battery warranty-valid for unlimited kilometers-for its Curvv EV and Nexon EV (45 kWh variant), joining the Harrier EV in this coverage.

What does "lifetime" mean?

Under the Motor Vehicles Act, "lifetime" aligns with the vehicle's 15-year RTO registration period. That means from the date of first registration, eligible vehicles enjoy a full 15 years of coverage.

Who's covered?

- First owners of:

- Curvv EV (45 kWh)

- Nexon EV (45 kWh)

- Harrier EV

- Owners of existing (pre-launch) Curvv and Nexon 45 kWh models can also have their warranty upgraded to this new scheme.

Post-transfer warranty terms:

Once the vehicle is transferred to a second or subsequent owner, the battery warranty adjusts as follows:

- Curvv EV & Nexon EV (45 kWh): 8 years or 160,000 km (whichever comes first)

- Harrier EV: 10 years or 200,000 km

Note: Each subsequent owner must notify Tata of the ownership change for the warranty to remain valid.

Warranty conditions:

1. Servicing at authorised Tata EV centres, following recommended schedules.

2. Registration must be in the name of a private individual.

3. The car must have a continuous Tata IRA.ev connection.

4. No physical damage or tampering to the battery pack.

5. Replacement battery capacity must maintain minimum state-of-health thresholds post-repair.

Why this move matters:

- Offers peace of mind to new and current owners against battery degradation.

- Enhances resale value, especially for pre-owned Curvv and Nexon EVs.

- Signals Tata's commitment to long-term EV adoption and confidence.

Final thoughts:

This warranty move strengthens Tata's EV appeal-reducing long-term ownership anxiety and bolstering trust in battery health. It's a smart differentiation in a competitive Indian EV market.
